Thanks and please do as much as you can.Do you have any advice ono trying out for a dance team?
First of all: be nice to everyone! Dance teams love to have people that are nice to everyone on the team... meaning, don't talk bad about anyone, the coach probably will find out.
To improve flexibility and get your splits (if you don't have them already) I do a certain ';stretch.'; (after stretching on the ground before, though) Stand up, and not bending your knees, touch the floor (like you are touching your toes standing up) and then take one leg at a time and kick it up in fast motions, while still having the other leg in the ground of course. After about 15-20 of those kicks, leave that kicking leg in the air in attitude (bent) and hold it for about 10 seconds or so. Then straighten that same leg it so it is like you are in the splits in the air and hold it for a few seconds. Then attempt your splits.
Another stretch is the jazz split, which is on the ground like a regular split except your back leg is bent in about a 90-180 degree angle to your straight leg, whichever you can do (closer to the 180 degree is better, so try to push your bent leg back so you get a better stretch)
Depending on what type of team it is, you will have to know different dance moves. If it is a poms team, you will probably need to know no matter what toetouches, leaps or switchleaps, and piruettes (turns). It all depends on what type of dance team you are trying out for.
Make sure you practice a lot! Have a friend come over to review the dance for an hour to two. That really helps. It also is very helpful with a friend to videotape eachother dancing so you can see what you need to work on.
Good luck!Do you have any advice ono trying out for a dance team?
Stong arms and legs, be overdramatic, be yourself, have fun, listen carefully!
Here is a couple sites I found rather quickly. You could go to a store that sells movies and DVD's and i'm sure youll find some for aerobics, and many kinds of dancing intstruction videos. Then just practice every single day, give yourself about 30 minutes for warm-up then anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours to practice dance moves. The more you practice, the more you'll learn and it'll be good for you too.
The one site I put a link to, is a dance and workout combined, the exotic dance site.
Try to find video on this dance ensemble so you can see
what their style is and energy level. Short of that, try and
incorporate several different styles of dance into your
audition. If you can bring your own music, pre-record
to include Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Modern...give a little of
each. If you have mastered acrobatics of any kind,
throw those in too...and smile the whole time. The
energy level should be the highest you can sustain.
Don't worry about the others trying out too....just be
the very best you can be and if you don't get it, keep
auditioning. There will be a perfect fit down the line.
If you can Google up some of the last episodes of
';Do you Think You Can Dance,'; it would be fantastic
for you as these kids were top grade, innovative and
infectious. Another thing....if you're a really fantastic
dancer, wear something very simple and if you're not
that great, glam it up a bit for distraction. Good luck.
My guess is that they won't just look at your dancing, they'll also be looking at your attitude. Be enthusiastic, and try and interact some with your potential team mates. Be friendly. That way, if it comes down to a tie between you and another person, they will remember you more and be more likely to choose you.
Just try to have a good time and make sure you look like you are!! Look like you love what you do which you probably do since your joining a team and all. Good Luck!!!
If you do not have a strong dance background, at the tryouts be very energetic and upbeat. they are going to be looking for people who can entertain a football stadium. Stretch out your legs-maybe try to get your splits by trying them. Sitting in a tight butterfly stretch opens up your hips for nice rotation in toe-touches. Good Luck!
