sleeping, resting, drinking fluids, tylenol, hot showers. Anything else that might help?Anyone have any advice to do to feel better with a sinus infection? Im also 28 weeks pregnant. I have tried?
Best is steam inhalation.
Avoid any kind of OTC (over the counter) which may harm the baby (fetus)
If it is too severe then Amoxycillin which is safe in pregnancy will cure but only after consulting with the doctorAnyone have any advice to do to feel better with a sinus infection? Im also 28 weeks pregnant. I have tried?
I know this sounds wierd or like you may not want to do it...but my mother (suffers from chronic sinus infections) does a sinus irrigation. It's saline solution. She said it feels like a weight has been taken off of her nose!
Also put a drop of Vicks in the sink and turn on the hot water. Put a towel over your head and soak that in.
Maybe an ice pack on your eyes or where the sinus pressure is?? Feel better. . I had a bad one right before my wedding and it was so terrible. I feel for you hun.
Hi.
One thing to avoid based on my personal experience is antibiotics. My doctor last year ended up treating me with four different antibiotics which didn't work, made me sick, and possibly caused me to become antibiotic resistant. There was recently an article in my paper stating the uselessness and dangers of antibiotics in treating sinus infections. So don't get antibiotics!
Since you're pregnant, I don't know if this is a feasible option for you or not, but I had nasal surgery to deal with the problem. The surgery helped somewhat, although I think your best action that I heard about is to inhale hot steam, but be careful not to burn yourself!
I always put a very hot wash cloth on my sinuses. Then I put a hot pan of water on the stove and bend forward and drape a towel on my head and breath in the steam It has helped me..I just checked the medical book and it says to put 1 tsp. of table salt in 2 cups of warm water. Put into a shot glass and tilt you head back and sniff it into one nostril and then blow that nostril. Then do the other side. Only blow one nostril at a time or it can cause it to go deeper and cause more trouble. Oh. I forgot to tell you to put a pinch of soda in the salt water also. Good luck. The book says if you've had it more then 3 days you should see a doctor right away. GOOD LUCK
Wantsshy is correct. Listen to her. (it's kind of gross, but since you're going to be a mother soon, you have a lot worse gross things in your near future than a neti pot!)
call ur dr and ask if u can use benadryl(they have many diff types) wen my girls were pregnant and sick, besides tylenol, benadryl was all they were allowed to take. hope u feel better! happy holidays!
progesterone is hormone of pregnancy. It has a lot of systemic actions - one truly is sinus congestion. If you have a sinus infection - and it is bacterial - then an antibiotic will work (i am sure you have already gone this route with your PCP). If it is viral, then unfortunately you have to wait for it to run its course. Simple over the counter nasal saline sprays will help flush out your nose/sinuses and will not harm baby. as always, consult your family doc/ OBGYN first before taking any medication while pregnant. Good handwashing hygene will help prevent contracting colds etc as well.
Yes a Netti pot... The brand I use is called sinu-cleanse... it is meant for sinus troubles includig rhinitis due to pregnancy. It will make a huge difference for you once you use it twice a day for a couple of days... I bought mine at a CVS
