My carb is catching fire on my atv any advice on what wrong?

I've been trying to get this atv running that's been sitting for a few years maybe longer not sure when it last ran it seems to be acting like it's not firing in the enging yes there is spark I have checked and on top of it if I try to start it to long it pops and catches fire through the air intake of the carb any advice on what's wrong?My carb is catching fire on my atv any advice on what wrong?
i just know that when a car backfires up through the carb that means that the timing chain is off, and not opening valves at the same time, so the exhaust is being forced back up into the intake.


Take it to a mechanic and ask them to check the whole timing system, timing chain, gears, cam, valves... etc.My carb is catching fire on my atv any advice on what wrong?
Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.





Does it have points ignition? - may need to adjust the points %26amp; timing.


4 stroke engine can be a leaking intake valve.


Try cleaning the carburetor - especially the pilot jet.
