Well I just had my test on that last week!

What I did is got all the quizes I had from that chapter and studied them and went over the ones that I missed.

Usually the teachers put past quiz questions on the tests.

And just go through the textbook and skim through important sections.

Also, just stay calm and relaxed and make sure to get enough sleep and have a good breakfast.I got a biology test tomorrow can i get some studying advice help?
Tricks for studying -- emergency mode:

* Shut down all noises, television, Ipod, ... maximum focus.

* Review your material from the beginning writing slowing the key ideas. Writing down

(with a pen, no computer) increases memory by 100%.

* If there is concept that you do not understand, you must understand it and the key relations between other concepts.

* Stop after 55 minutes, take a short break, and start working for the next 55 minutes.

    Ha, I'm easily pleased.

I get turned on just from my boyfriend kissing my neck. I love when he kisses me from my neck to my navel. And he has a thing for my hip bones, so he likes to kiss them as well which also turns me on.

Just gotta work on your guys' foreplay. Kiss all over. HJ. BJ. You know.. :)

I am obsessed with HIV- though I avoid all risk activities- any advice on how to get over this crippling fear?

I have been this way for 4 years and tested negative multiple times. I have never had sexual contact with another, never used drugs, and never had a blood transfusion. Yet, an everyday thing like using a public restroom or shaking hands with someone sickens me with fear I've somehow become infected. Meds have only helped a little and counseling is proving redundant. Anyone have any suggestions?I am obsessed with HIV- though I avoid all risk activities- any advice on how to get over this crippling fear?
You can talk to a therapist who will address this as a phobia. Change docs and change medications. You are not gonna get HIV unless you involve yourself in risky behavior and I do not think you're gonna be doing that. It is easy for me to say ';stop all the worrying'; but I know it is not that easy. I tend to worry about EVERYTHING and I did not get better until my doc adjusted the dosage on my meds and now I worry, but not to the degree I once did. Good LUCK!I am obsessed with HIV- though I avoid all risk activities- any advice on how to get over this crippling fear?
    Educate yourself.

If you knew all you could, you'd know it's very easy to avoid if you take simple precautions.

And you'd know you can't get it from shaking a hand.

Just take a deep breath, type HIV in on google, and do some debate-worthy research on it.

Besides, with all the things happening these days I'd be more worried about Cancer.

You can't really prevent yourself from getting that.
Educate others as to the causes. Maybe after you hear yourself say it many times, maybe you will believe that you do not participate in high risk behavior.
go have sex with someone who has the disease. then you won't need to be going nuts over not getting, because you will then have it.

anways, shaking hands with someone won't infect you. it has to be direct contact, such as blood to blood.

stop being such a paranoia freak and live life the way its supposed to be. You can't stop the inevitable from happening
    Your fears are for nothing.

You can only get aids through the fluids of someone who has aids.

So don't play with others blood and have your boyfriend tested for aids before you have sex.

Always wear a good strong rubber and use plenty of lube.

I hate public restrooms as well and will only use ones that I know look clean and then only in an extream emergency and then a good lon shower and a soak in the tub and then another scrubing in the shower and I feel like new.

Any one have any advice for me, wanting to teach myself to play the guitar?

I am willing to start with most types of music and learn more as i (hopefully) get better. A few things i want to know are what kind of guitar should i start with? (type, model and cost) i would also like to know if there are any books, websites out there that can help to get me started. any advice you have would be great.Any one have any advice for me, wanting to teach myself to play the guitar?
Buying a guitar: I would suggest deciding on how much you are willing to spend. Many guitars on the lower end of the spectrum ($140-180) are still made very well due to the quality of today's manufacturing processes. I would suggest going to a music shop and ask them for some recommendations for a beginner guitar. Do not get the $90 starter kits and you won't need anything over $200ish. To keep costs down, you could go with an acoustic. But your choice will depend on what type of music you want to play. An electric guitar with an amp will allow you to play around with different effects. My starter electric guitar was an ESP - LTD EC50 for about $170 CA. The amp I got was a Line 6 - Spider III - 15 Watts (which is enough to annoy many a neighbor). I don't remember what I paid, but my guess is you could get it for about $75-$100 now. It has a number of effects on it too that would allow you to play various styles. Check the sources section for a review on the Amp.

Getting started is the hardest part. Where to get started? I would suggest getting a software or DVD course. This provides you with professional lessons (minus the feedback from a real teacher). Who has the time and money these days for real lessons? The quality you can get in some of these programs is unparralleled to what used to be coming out. I own two courses, 1) Jamorama and 2) Learn and Master guitar. Jamorama is a downloadable course for $40 and will provide you with excellent beginner, intermediate and advanced material. L%26amp;M guitar runs in the $150-200 range because it is a DVD course. Both are excellent courses and use text/video lessons/jam tracks. I would recommend getting either course.

The great thing about the courses is that you can progress at your own pace. And if you dislike the course... there is a full refund guarantee for I think 60 days. I think they have some free lessons to check out and a newsletter. http://www.stampproject.com/guitar.htm

There are some good articles at http://www.stampproject.com/guitar_artic鈥?/a> to help with learning how to practice, strumming, what type of guitar to get etc.

Best of luck with learning guitar. Just remember it is going to be getting started that will be the hardest. It can be really frustrating learning your first few chords and not be able to actually play anything. Stick with it and you'll be playing some great songs before you know it. My first song I learned was Pearl Jam - Last Kiss with a chord progression of G - Em - C - D and a strum pattern of DDUUDU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5rgnFAAF鈥?/a>

PS. Youtube is also a great resource for 'how to play' your fav songs.Any one have any advice for me, wanting to teach myself to play the guitar?
About one month ago I decided to teach myself the guitar at home too. i got an amp + a strat and bought some Hal Leonard Books .. which I've been working with. I also use a lot of my keyboard / piano music books, I order music books from http://www.sheetmusicplus.com

I go to http://www.youtube.com for video lessons. Also, don't forget to get Berklee Guitar books too..they're pretty good along with Hal Leonard.

Now you may want to just go with the acousitic guitar so you don't have the expence of an amp....

My first thing to do was not use my books at all. I just repeatedly fingered the board and must strum the guitar with a lot of focus on the thicker strings with all of my fingers; especially, 3rd %26amp; 4th fingers. I wanted to toughen them up so they will not hurt as much when I press on the strings and I can play the F chord better / properly.

I got a finger exerciser too...so I can build the muscles and strengthen the fingers.

About 8 days later I started to use the actual books and began with the basics that I did not know... i knew much from my keyboard study ( about one year).

    Put ice on it! :)

Were you playing ';Kick Boxer'; on the Wii or what Jay Jay? :)What is the best advice to give someone with an eye infection which is partially swollen shut?
See a doctor would be the best advice. If your eye is so bad infected that it is swollen, you/they need to see a doctor. Your eyes are not something to overlook. You could loose your vision very easily. Other than seeing a doctor I would go to your local drug store and get some kind of over the counter medicated eyedrops, ask the pharmacist what would be best to buy. What is the best advice to give someone with an eye infection which is partially swollen shut?

What's your advice on how to have good credit?

How do you build your credit from the ground up? I'm going to be 18 soon and have no credit yet, so I want a good start.

-ThanksWhat's your advice on how to have good credit?
First, open a checking account and put some money in it on a regular basis. Start out getting a credit card such as a gasoline credit card. Charge your gasolin on it and when you get your statement pay it off, all of it. Once you have done this for a while, apply for a bank credit card and do the same. Charge only a small amount and pay it off, when you get your statement. What's your advice on how to have good credit?
Pay it off in full every month.

You can apply for credit with your favorite department store, which may sometimes require a cosigner. Get the account to begin charging for your clothing, or whatever, and only buy as much as you can EASILY pay back each month.

Credit is not good if used improperly, because you are in effect borrowing against the possibility of a brighter tomorrow. Can you guarantee that?
open credit accounts like those at retail stores or other easy ones to get like capitol one or aspire visa and make your payments all on time

  • Does anyone have advice on how to cope with gambling losses?

I have come to the sad realization that I have a gambling addiction and I have lost way too much money. I am done gambling! How do I cope with my losses, the money I lost consumes my thoughts almost every second of the day......any advice?Does anyone have advice on how to cope with gambling losses?
I have won and lost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars almost every single day for several years.

The best way to cope is to learn that its just money and you wont die, in the end, you will continue to live and are only unhappy because you choose to be by letting yourself get down over it.

You came to battle the casinos, only either you or the casino could win money, this time it was the casino, this is always a possibility and you cant be upset about it.

Don't expect to win it back unless you learn to play with advantage or cheat and not get caught. As you lose more and more money, the probability of winning that much money back with the same sized bets decreases and approaches 0%

If you feel a need to gamble,. try learning about the concept of a house edge, and the probabilities of winning money as you play more and more trials.Does anyone have advice on how to cope with gambling losses?
Get into therapy. You probably can't tackle this addiction alone and not only can it ruin your emotional life, it can ruin your financial well-being. But first and foremost, forgive yourself. We all find ourselves turning toward unhealthy vices from time to time. Learn from this experience, realize you can't engage in any type of gambling again in the future, try to pass along your experience to others in a helpful way and channel your energy into something positive like a new hobby or form of entertainment. Also, besides a therapist, find a buddy that cares enough about you that you can talk to you when you feel especially down. Good luck! No pun intended! :)
    Please consider Gamblers Anonymous.

    Here's a link for meetings:

go get help to stay away from gambling. Admit to the people who need to know what you have done, and forgive yourself. Stay away from triggers that will tempt you again. Good luck.
Accept the facts .. and move on .. Do not dwell on this .. Since you do not gamble anymore.. Use your addictive personality to save money.. Ya.. you are now addicted to saving money..

Is there any advice for an inexpensive way of dressing up an existing vanity?

Im remodeling a not so appealing bathroom and money is tight. I dont want to buy a new vanity I just want to dress up the existing and throw on a new vanity top. Any help would be greatly appreciatedIs there any advice for an inexpensive way of dressing up an existing vanity?
Home depot has 'stuff' to refinish the base after you take the doors off. You could the paint the doors any color. Like trim the inside or outside of them with an accent paint color. Easy and cheap. Then if you really want to splurge, go to the clearance section of walmart or target and get some knobs. That might set you back about $5 but worth it....Is there any advice for an inexpensive way of dressing up an existing vanity?
Thank you very much, all of you. I will definitely have this project rapped up for cheap.

The top of your vanity can be faux finished (an easy process) to the look of granite, marble, sponge painted or even just painted a solid color. Choosing neutral colors allows you to incorporate any color on the walls or in accessories that you choose at any time.

First, clean and wipe the area (whether it's tile or formica) with pure white vinegar (to give it tooth).

Next, apply two coats of BIN primer (found at your local hardware store).

Paint with any standard water based paint or even craft paints). If you would like to find out how to faux finish the top to look like granite, search the subject on the internet for easy step by step how to.

Once the paint is dry, complete with two coats of polyeurethane sealer. This will deepen the color and make it look ver rich.

The new finish will now last through years of abuse.

For your cabinet, prime as above. Inexpensive detail ornaments especially for furniture (called ';Onlays'; ) can be purchase for anywhere from $2.00 each to $8.00 and come in many different styles. Search ';Onlays'; on the internet and you will find tons of sites that carry them.

Glue these to the fronts or corners of the doors or drawers then paint the entire vanity base (including the onlays) with a neutral colored paint (cream, white, pale brown, etc).

Seal with polyeurethane to protect against water, soil and abrasion.

You will have gorgeous new cabinets in no time and with very little expense!

Hope that helps to give you a new direction.

You can try painting it. or if it is smooth try putting contact paper on it. I've done both.
How about a tile mosaic -- Just epoxy small tiles and grout-- form a design or just free form -- grout in an interesting color-- Don't use broken pieces of plates-- -- It's too dangerous in a bathroom

What if there are bad notes high up on a spanish guitar I just bought? Any one have any advice here?

I just bought a spanish guitar. I play them often...so I am familiar with them. I wish I would have noticed when I bought it, but I didn't realize till last night in the studio that when I play high up on the high strings some of the notes around the twelth fret go out of tune. It's a spanish guitar, so no adjustable bridge. Does anyone have any advice here. What if there are bad notes high up on a spanish guitar I just bought? Any one have any advice here?
Could be a slight warp in the fretboard. Is it a used one? What if there are bad notes high up on a spanish guitar I just bought? Any one have any advice here?
Sorry, but the guitar is no good. Neck has warped to the inside from strings being left with tension on them (humidity does this) and the only remedy is to get another neck installed on it as the one you have on it is junk now.

I have need advice concerning my english springer spaniel?

I have a 2 year old male english springer spaniel, and his ears are so bad they smell like it is yeast, i put the yeast medicine in his ears like the vet said, but it seems not to help, can anyone tell me of anything i can use to help my poor dog? :(I have need advice concerning my english springer spaniel?
If you and your vet are absolutely certain that the infection is a yeast infection, then the best thing for your dog would be to clean the ears twice a day with a white vinegar solution...Simply mix white vinegar half and half with rubbing alcohol....Clean the ears twice a day with this solution...This will kill the yeast as well as any resulting infection...

Please continue to use the meds from your vet at least every other day...Within two weeks of diligence, your dogs will be yeast free... :-)

After the infection is gone, please continue cleaning your dogs ears with the vinegar/alcohol solution about once a week and the infection will never come back....GOOD LUCK !!!I have need advice concerning my english springer spaniel?
I have an English Springer Spaniel too.

I don't think your dog is suffering from yeast.

How often does he take a bath? Where does he take a bath? How do you give him a bath?

My dog takes a bath every Saturday in my brother's bathtub, and my dad uses medicated dog shampoo %26amp; conditioner.

Sometimes if my dog is scratching his ears, we check if it's reddish inside, then we use dog-ear cleaner with cotton buds. Ask your vet more about the ear-cleaning solution. They should be selling them at a pet store, along with cotton buds.
I have a ESS and my friend had a Cocker Spaniel. Every so often we take a soft hair scrunchie and pull the ears up to let them ';breath';. This seems to help with keeping problems at bay. Don't put the scrunchie on tight, you only want to air out the ears not give him a face lift. Cleaning the ears often helps too. Hope this helps.
This could be a food allergy. See if there is Brewer's Yeast in your dog food. Many people find that by upgrading their dog food, that problems lessen or disappear.

I have a dog with cronic ear problems.

I have now found that treating her ears with Colloidal Silver gets rid of the problem.

Whats the best advice you could give a new Nanny?

Someone who is very familiar with the grade-school age, but not so familiar with the toddler age?Whats the best advice you could give a new Nanny?
Toddlers are very active and love to just run around and get into things..talk to the parents to get an idea of the child's schedule(when to eat, nap(toddlers need naps),etc.), rules and discipline for the child (what the parents do in what situation). be firm and consistant when giving consequences for things they do wrong, they will, can and do push your buttons and can get out of anything if you let them, so don't. Have lots of fun activies to do with them (painting, coloring, playing outside) hands-on activies are really great and helps them develope their fine motor skills.

Bottom line, consult with the parents on anything you are not sure about. As a parent (I'm a mother of 3) I love it when caregivers (babysitter, nanny or whathave you) talk to me about things and keeps me informed about my child. Remember, you are there to assist the parents, so keep that in mind when taking care of the children and conduct yourself in a professional manner, eventually you will need references for helping other families.Whats the best advice you could give a new Nanny?
Always behave as if you were on a ';nanny-cam';.
Be careful as to what you say and what you do with a toddler. Toddlers love to repeat what they hear, and will repeat everything. Parents of toddlers, are known for putting hidden mini-camera's around their homes, for the purpose of watching for abuse of their children. Keeping toddlers occupied is not an easy job for any adult. The parent(s) know the likes and dislikes of their children, and you should take full advantage of this information. Ask them what things their toddlers like and write them down. Read them a book, color with them, find out where and when their favorite program is on. Take a jigsaw puzzle, and draw the ABC's and 123's in order, on the back of the puzzle pieces. This way you can teach them and play at the same time. Put the puzzle together which teaches them organizational skills and concepts.
    Think!!!

Ask the parent/s lots of questions.

    If you don't know, ask.

You have to be in control form the very start. It is much easier to ease up then fight for control.

    Toddlers are changing everyday.

Who knows what they might come up with.

Learn to fly by the seat of your pants!!!
u need to have a lot of patience. always stay calm but set the rules right away. dont let them push you around...they will take advantage of you. and dont treat them any differently than you would if their parents were there. hope this helps =]

For me, non-stop is the best. You can walk around the plane. Why stop progress? Food in coach is always crappy. You'll probably get two hot meals (maybe an omelette for breakfast, potatoes, veg and meat for dinner). They'll have a couple of choices. And then drinks and dry snacks in between (peanuts, pretzels etc). Watch movies. Five movies and you're there.
on my trip there was like a chicken thing and i think sandwiches but i went from LAX

Did they tell you what species it is? That will determine how to take care of it, watering is a major part, but not the only thing to watch.

Send me an email with your city location and a photo or description of the foliage, and repeat your question to:

watering is easy. when the soil is dry to the touch, fill a dish big enough for the pot to fit in with one inch of water and let the pot sit in the water for about half an hour to forty five minutes. The roots will absorb the water. You can also use a spray bottle and mist it occasionally.

If you dont read 3 newspapers every day and gathered lots of knowledge the last 3-5 years, you will probably loose all your money.
I would recommend reading the Motley Fool website and, in particular their book ';The UK Investment Guide';, there's a US equivalent too if that's where you live.

I read the book and it really helped me sort out my finances as it starts with a discussion of where you should be financially before you even get started with investing in stocks and shares.

Their first step is to start with a Stocks and Shares ISA (Index Tracking) and then take it from there.

Highly recommended book, easy to read and entertaining at the same time is being full of essential information.

You have been given good answers or I can say guidance already by other friends but just wanted to add a few. On top of using the given investor's sites you need to monitor the daily share price trend of the companies you need to buy and sell shares from. The behaviour of the trend within the week to two weeks will assist you to predict /determine the share values of a company with the assistance of the stock broker ofcourse. You need to have a good amount of capital to start up with for you to make profits or good returns. You also need to be a high risk taker because the game is very risky but also very rewarding. Remember the higher the risk, the greater the returns so it pays. You can be buying and selling shares on the stock exchange market daily if you want provided that you sell out shares whose prices have gone up and hold on to shares whose prices have gone down (that is you compare your cost price of the shares acquired against prices offered on the market for the same shares of your company) Goodluck and do it

You can buy shares from your high street bank. If you are a novice stick with safe shares, these are called 'blue chip' and are usually internationally known. I had a friend who had 13k to invest in February and I told him to play safe and put the money in Tesco. They are worth 16.5K today up 34%, not very exciting maybe but better than the return he was getting on deposit.

Does anyone have any advice for starting a new job as a financial advisor?

I am about to start on my certifications, and should be starting in about 2-3 months.Does anyone have any advice for starting a new job as a financial advisor?
';Financial Advisor'; is a term which has many meanings -- are you studying for a Series 7?

When I managed Registered Reps, I often told them 'if you don't lose money for your clients, you don't get sued'. The key to that is to diversify the client's portfolios. If they can't afford to buy a diversified portfolio, then stay with broad-based etfs.

Your face two major risks -- a) not generating enough commissions to support yourself, and b) putting your interests ahead of those of your clients. These are, of course, at odds with one another, which is what is wrong with the basic structure of the brokerage industry.

    Good luck.

My favorite subject is English, and I just realized I don't know what I want to do with my life. I did a little bit of research and found ';Editor'; to my liking. I want to edit books and magizines. Can someone give me advice on what kinds of classes I should take if I want to be in this field? Thanks!I want to be an Editor. Can someone give me some advice and what I have to do to become one?
Keep taking all things English related - ESPECIALLY creative writing courses. If you can get into some journalism courses, that will help too. Also, see if you can get on the student paper - the writing experience will help PLUS you can work your way towards editor - and then get some experience in the area. Finally, once you get the hang of some basic tasks in editing, apply at the local paper for an editor, copy editor, whatever - or look around the community for volunteer gigs that can use that skill set.

Can anyone give me advice on applying bronzer?

A novice person with make-up needs advice on applying bronzer. Don't want to look tan-tastic. Can you help? Can anyone give me advice on applying bronzer?
    * apply it in a well-lit room (don't laugh, I've seen the results otherwise!!) ;)

    * don't try to apply it to make yourself look ';tan'; .... it should give a HINT of color but not falsify a monthlong trip to Jamaica!!

    * use a BIG brush. one of the previous posters said a ';good'; brush, but that's a subjective term. a BIG brush is one where if the bristles are tilted downward in the palm of your hand, it'll basically almost FILL UP your palm. the bigger the brush, the more it'll spread/feather the product out over your face.

    * if using a powdered bronzer, start with a small amount. when i say this, think ';adding cayenne pepper to your own food.'; a TINY amount goes a long way!

    * if using a ';cake'; bronzer, lightly TAP your brush on the bronzer cake, then ';swirl'; in the blank side of the lid to ';load'; the brush. distributing the product inside the brush is paramount to your success!

    * go by the ';rule of 2's'; ---- NEVER go back to the bronzer for more than 2 sweeping applications. i promise, you've usually got enough on at that stage to do the job!!

    some good choices:

SUGAR TROPIC TAN http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jh鈥?/a> i've used this one. it has good color. not too red! huge amount of product and tiny gold flecks make this a great choice. USE SPARINGLY!!

    Laura Gellar Bronze and Brighten - http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jh鈥?/a> --- this product has both bronzer AND a little lightener in there... so it winds up not looking too dark!! a VERY smart choice for fairer-skinned types or a ';bronzer beginner';

CARGO BRONZER- they have a lot of color choices http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jh鈥?/a>

BARE MINERALS FAUX TAN- if you have sensitive or acne prone skin, this product is the BEST. all minerals means no clogged pores, no irritation. and with the absolute MINISCULE amount you have to use, this could quite literally last you for years!! http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jh鈥?/a>

OK I'll stop. Hope this helps!!! NikCan anyone give me advice on applying bronzer?
First you should get a BRONZER brush from SEPHORA.. it allows you to apply is SO MUCH better than a regualr brush. I use MAC bronzer golden.. its not to dark and I use to all year long. Start at the forehead then cheekbone (like your applying blush), go down your nose too!
I am going to try to explain this in words...it is easier to see. This is exactly how I learned to apply it at Bare Essescentuals. After applying the makeup to the brush make sure you tap the brush a bit...removing excess makeup is a key to not looking to orange! Then do one side of the face at a time. Start in the midle of the forehead and draw a number 3 going down the side of your face. Basically the top bump of the number three swoops around the bones around your eye and comes down the apple of your cheek bone. That is the top part of the number three. Finish by taking the bottom bump of the three and swooping it down and around toward your chin just barely above the jaw line. Repeat on the other side with a backwards three. This method, if you understood my crazy directions, will apply bronzer to the parts of the face that are naturally sun kissed due to placement of bones etc. They told me the key is to use very little bronzer...LESS IS MORE. I would recommend going to Bare Essescentuals and getting a free make over. This is wat I did since I was never good at the makeup thing. They can make you look so pretty and natural and their makeup is actaully all natural and GOOD for the skin!!!
    1) use a good brush

    2) stab your bronzer

    3) lightly tap brush to knock off excess

    4) stab at your face with brush, going where the sun touches, from temple to temple across the top of your cheeks, your nose, your forehead and the front surface of your chin.

    5) Blend with small circular strokes and always blend down
Yup . Dont do it , it looks fake . Unless you get a pro to do it you end up looking like a carrot .
Lightly dust it on your cheek bones, fore head %26amp; sides of your nose.

How do I tell my friend to stop giving me parenting advice?

My friend is giving me parenting advice non stop because she's been reading a parenting book written by a Nun (of all people to talk about being a parent) and she isn't even a mom herself! I have a 2 year old who is just like every other 2 year old. She doesn't want to eat, she throws fits etc.. But anyone will tell you that I'm a great mom and that my daughter is happy and a sweetheart. I'm sick of being told '; Don't feed her this, don't ever do that.. don't punish ever!'; I keep thinking ';Just wait until theres a dirty diaper smeared across your kitchen wall or your kid is having a tantrum in the store and you are forced to leave'; I would never ever spank my daughter but my friend is going so far as to tell me never to even give time outs. Who is she to give me this advice? She's been married for barely a year and has no idea what parenting is like. She's driving me nuts!!!How do I tell my friend to stop giving me parenting advice?
Let her know that you dont just ';DO THINGS'; with your child without making sure your in the clear or that you are right.

Here's some websites for new parents and let her know you refer to these or not..

    http://www.parenting.com/parenting

    http://parenting.ivillage.com/

    http://www.parentsinc.org.nz/

    http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/

    http://parenting.aol.com/parenting/onlyo鈥?/a>

I know what you mean, and its hard to tell someone who you love someone who is your friend to BUTT out of your life.

Be calm and tell her nicely that you appreciate all she is doing for you but there are somethings that you need her to do less.

Explain to her that you understand that she is trying to help, but each child is different and each child responds differently to different things. There is no Tried and true book on raising kids.

While you can learn alot from a great many books, there is no set advice you MUST abide by other that state and federal laws.

Explain to her that the book she is expecting you to take heradvice from, is from a woman who has never married, has no true children of her own stepchildren or biological kids.

Explain to her that if she feels the need to give you parenting advice then you would more readily accept it if the source were from someone who were ACTUAL PARENTS!!!!

Do try to be calm however hard it may be, friendships are a dime a doezon, but true friends only come once or twice in a lifetime. In time you will learn to place these types of people on auto ignore, you hear them but you dont listen. Use your own best judgment for your child, along with your peditrican.. that should do you.How do I tell my friend to stop giving me parenting advice?
You will find that this happens FREQUENTLY and not just from friends.... (I imagine when you were pregnant you ran into a few of those strangers who had your ';best interests'; at heart.... I know *I* DID LOL) There is really no way to stop them from doing it, but that doesnt mean sitting back and taking it either.

Sit down with your friend (someplace fairly public so that you dont have to feel bad about walking away) and tell her '; I appreciate that you have taken such an interest in parenting, but no book will ever teach you what real life can. Please dont pass on your knowledge anymore until you've been able to give it a test run with your own kids. Thanks for understanding.'; Then get up and walk away. Its direct and to the point without being mean and the fact that you get up and walk away tells her that you are not inviting discussion on the matter.

    Good Luck.
I agree with you and you should bring your child up the way you think is best. Just tell your friend if she so badly want to give you advice on parenting, she should get her own child and focus her attention on how to bring up her child and not yours.
You just come right out and tell her. If she doesn't take the hint, ask her if she'd mind shoving that nun's book in her rear. :)

The problem is, people feel free to give their advice out all the time, w/out being asked. It's just the way things are, unfortunately. Start advising her on something, maybe that'd help as well?
If you want to keep her as a friend, just politely tell her that you appreciate her advice, but it doesn't work for your child (or whatever excuse you choose). If she doesn't have kids, tell her some things about being a parent, especially dirty diapers smeared across the kitchen wall. If you and others feel you are a good mom, just sit back and wait until she has them and give her advice that actually works.
let her look after your daughter for one whole week this includes day and night no time out.
Just tell her thanks for her concern but your doing just fine. Just wait when she has a baby watch out. All parents who care and do their best are great parents. No one ever born has the perfect childhood so dont worry about your baby. And if your friend persists in giving unwanted and unneeded advise cut her loose
I would just politely tell her that you value her advice but you prefer to do it your own way as opposed to living life from a book. Tell her that when she has kids she'll understand. My best friend started babysitting a little boy and started giving me advice...that I wouldn't ever take. Luckily she doesn't go on and on about it. So when she gives me the not needed advice I just let it go in one ear and out another.
    Okay try this... ';Hey (your friend name here), who's gonna be looking after 'til she's 18, me, so back off and get your own life!';

You might want to tone it down a little but that should do the trick!
Just don't listen to her. Ignore what she tells you.

or just mention to her that you are trying out a new parenting strategy and her suggestions do not seem to go with it.
I have a friend who likes to give food and development type advice, and I just say that ';My doctor said.....';, and that helps. If she continues I say that I really like my doctor and I trust her advice. That tends to shut her up, but not all the time. Try that, though, blame your ';poor'; parenting on your doctor's advice.
You are going to have to sit her down and explain to her while you know she means well...you aren't interested on her parenting advice.
I agree with the previous answer to tell her you'll rely on your own instinct as a mom and grow your child in the way you think is right. (that way later on you won't regret taking her advice). Tell her nicely, that (if) when she has her child you would never dictate to her about raising her child, and ask her to give you that same level of respect.
MOST LIKELY SHE IS TRYING TO BE HELPFUL TO YOU IN ALL THE WRONG WAYS. I WOULD SAY LET HER CARE FOR YOUR CHILD AND HER TUNE MIGHT CHANGE, BUT WHY PUNISH YOUR CHILD FOR THE WAY YOUR FRIEND IS ACTING. YOU COULD TALK TO HER ABOUT IT AND SAY, I KNOW YOU ARE MEANING WELL, BUT I NEED TO DO IT THE WAY THAT IS WORKING FOR MY DAUGHTER AND I.
I had to do that myself only with someone who I have called my sister even tho there is no blood between us.

    You need to sit her down and tell her exactly how you feel. If she is truly your friend she will understand. I told mine ';I appreciate the advice and the assitance. Really I do. But lately it has been getting out of hand. Could you please stop with the advice. Yes I might make mistakes with my kids, but they are my kids and my mistakes to make.';

She looked at me and said FINALLY.
    Tell her ';I appreciate your need to help, but you can talk until you're blue in the face and I will still raise my daughter my way. If you wish you raise your children that way, go ahead, but my daughter will be raised the way I see fit';

And repeat it every time she tries to give you parenting advice. Pretty soon she'll get tired of hearing it, and STFU.
It seems like to me a lot of people that have no experience like to give advice. Tell her you appreciate her caring about you and your child but she is your child and you would like to raise her the way you see fit to do so. something you can with her about the book thing is to ask if you can borrow it and do some research on your own with it. One of the reasons she may be doing this is because she's jealous of you wants to be a mom herself, she can put to practice all this stuff when she does become a mother.
There are several ways to stop people giving you unsolicited advice.

You may decide to just nod and do what you know is the right thing to do; just keep silent and allow them to rant on and on while you do what you know is the right thing to do.

You can look them straight in the eye whenever they start and give them a look that will tell them their advice is not needed/ welcome .

You can find some ';neutral'; time (when they're not giving you the advice) and tell them you appreciate their interest and concern for you to do a good job of parenting but would like for them to be a little more understanding of your need to get it right at your own pace, and that their nattering is just a wee bit unhelpful.

OR you could hold the same kind of meeting and tell them to please leave you alone.

If all these do not work, you can tell a mutual friend who may be able to mediate in the 'stalemate'.

If all these fail, then keep away from them until they come to their senses!!

I want to add that in most case such people think they're trying to help, so be considerate and try all means of approach to get them to understand how you feel.

    All the best!!
I would go to Kmart and buy her a babyrattle or some inexpensive baby gift under $5, then wrap it up nicely and include a note. ';I know you are very eager to be a parent, you have already even begun doing a lot of reading and reasearch, and you are soo eager to put everything into practice! So in anticipation of the great day you become a mother, I wanted to be the first to congratulate you!'; If this hint is not enough for her and she continues giving you advice, buy her a fertility book ';How to get pregnant fast'; and wrap it up nicely again and write a note, ';Hope this helps. I know you rely a lot on written word for parenting, so here are my two cents, hope it helps to get you pregnant soon! Best of luck!'; And everytime she talks to you about parenting, abruptly switch the subject to fertility and pregnancy and ask her how is it going with the baby planning. Soon enough she will learn not to ask for unwanted advice!
she doesnt sound like much of a friend, criticising your every move. stop her coming around your house slowly. she sounds like a prima donna who thinks she's all that wait until she's got to or three rug rats driving her up the wall then you can laugh right in her face. tell her to bolt, she's stressing you out and being a mum is stressful enough without her adding to the pressure
If push comes to shove tell your ';friend'; that you find her constant critisisum hurtful, you are after all the childs mother and it is up to you what punishment (if any) your child receives what she eats etc.. make a point in conversations to say ';my son/daughter'; or if that dont work break contact for a while.
I would just be blunt about it. Tell her that she has her own opinions but so do you so keep hers to herself. Also I just want to give you one piece of advice about the tantrums. I have a 3 year old and she did the same thing and I just brushed it off I am regretting that now because the tantrums have gotten worse. I wish I would have disciplined more to stop it then. There is nothing wrong with spanking as long as you have good self control and don't get carried away. Good Luck and just be honest with your friend.
i have to put up with that all the time from my mom in law quit frankly she did a lousy job with her 3 kids i just tell her thanks for the advice but i will handle this my way she gets mad but she keeps give her opinion you will learn to block it out or tell her my kid my rules shut up

  • Anyone have some good advice on some commodites?

. I would really be interested in getting stocks in grains.

How would you do that? Or copper? I hear that is one of the best commodites right now.

We are in a real need for this right now and reading all of our commodity issues one of them is grains and copper as the highest. Of course there is corn too. But there are others such as metals too. But how would one go about investing in grains or oils like that?Anyone have some good advice on some commodites?
The best way to play commodities is to use exchange traded funds (ETFs). One ETF has the ticker symbol DBA. It is a basket of wheat, corn, soybeans and sugar and each of the four commodities carry an approximate 25 percent weighting in the fund. This ETF can be traded throughout the market day and the price changes frequently. This particular ETF is up about 10 percent year to date, but investing in commodities is not for the faint of heart. If you are OK with the risk profile of a fund like this then give it a try. Always do your own due diligence when investing.Anyone have some good advice on some commodites?
Copper and oil are in their maximum values now, at least the raise would be very narrow.

Try to focus on fertilizer industries. They got a great potential.

The principle is to buy in in a relative low price and then sell them at a raise slope. Of course, you may not be able to buy them in again as the price would continuous raising. This is about lucky and skill ( 20% of skill and 80% of luck)
Finspreads (spread betting firm) is alright for beginners as it lets you trade in small amounts. You can trade stocks, metals currencies, commodities. Commodities are volatile so watch it! and good luck
    buy gold coins.

ooooo yay! my fiance is over there!! thanks for supporting the troops! send razors, deoderant, wet ones, sharpies, playing cards, beef jerky, tampons/pads for the girls, hair elastics, toothpaste, poker set, pictures if you want, crystal light packets, packing tape....here's a few sites too! thanks again!Does anyone have any advice about sending a care package to Iraq?
    Thanks for the ideas everyone.

My nephew just went to Iraq and I was trying to think of what to send him!
****Crystal Light*** - the small packages of them mix perfectly with the bottled water used over there. They were a big hit with us. They were in the chow hall but never enough of them.

I forgot. Like the other poster said, send baby wipes, we used the hell out them when we were outside the wire and going on week three without a shower.
Toilet paper(no I'm not kidding), batteries, and baby wipes are the big three. I grew up 5 miles from a Marine base and have sent many care packages over the last few years. unscented sunscreen(any thing you send should be unscented), magazines, dvd's(comedies are best), razors, gum, any food that won't melt that they likely have no access too. Those little battery operated $5 games are great. But one of the biggest things you can do to raise spirits is to just send a letter or a card supporting them.
everyone above me has listed most everything. but it's real important to write them a nice letter and encouragement!
If you find out let me know... so email me if u find out... i would do that too. what r u putting in it?
Just send it with the correct address, and name.

Don't forget in your letter, to say thank you, and I love you.
Nothing that can melt--like chocolate. However comfort food is appreciated. Phone cards. Magazines and books. Pictures, letters, videos, etc.
The best way to send a package to Iraq is using a flat rate box, which comes in either a rectangular box or a ';shoe box'; size. It only costs about $8.90 no matter how heavy the box is, so that really saves some bucks. But you will need to complete a customs form that lists everything that is being shipped, and a total dollar amount. You can insure the packages for pennies, but I only insured the gifts I sent. Sometimes I would send hot tamales, magazines, cookies, jerky, letters and cards and books and still have a total dollar value of the package for less than $50 so I didn't bother to insure those ones. The post office should be able to get you the right customs form...it's pretty easy to fill out.

Does anyone have any advice for a 16 year old who wants to make some cash?

I have no mode of transportation, so it must be available from my house. I'll get a job when I have enough money to get a moped license, and a moped.Does anyone have any advice for a 16 year old who wants to make some cash?
how about you ride a mop instead , and get a job , and drive to your workplace on a mop

no, i am obvioulsy joking but there is no easy way to earn money..

set up a sellers account on ebay perhaps and sell old things that you dont want or pick up bargains at 2nd hand stores and flea markets and sellt hem on ebay as well,Does anyone have any advice for a 16 year old who wants to make some cash?
    Initiative is the best weapon!

Look first at the easy, common options - fast food stores, supermarkets. Not great pay - but it's a guaranteed hourly wage. But if they're too far to reach as I think you mean...then look at where you CAN get by foot.

Around the neighbourhood? Good start. Now, think. What do people want done - but don't want to do themselves? Or cant do? Do locals go on holiday and need someone to collect their mail, water the plants, etc? What about babysitting? People tend to take on girls more for that - but as a guy too its worth a try - and likewise, either sex can do yardwork. No-one likes mowing lawns either! Chances are you don't too - but for money, it's a good way to make a buck. Not so much housework - people don't like paying others to come in unless they're professional cleaners or maids - which is harsh, but you can see why, too. But yardwork is fine - put up a poster with hourly rate and any work you can do (the more variety, the better!)

Advertise locally to do that. Name a fairly reasonable price - probably on the lower end (which isn't so fun) but bear in mind people will take you on more often for less pay and if you work hard, they'll often offer more! After some time if you get well known - raise your pay rates slightly. People won't mind if they know you work hard.

Stick at it. But remember - be safe. If you can't do it safely, don't - no money is worth a nasty injury. Good examples of that are climbing on wet roofs to clear leaves - a dry, flat roof - ok. Wet? No. Just be polite. Work hard! But if you have customers who abuse you (don't pay, make you work in inhumane heat or cold, etc) then be strong to tell them no.

And even if you don't like the work - bear in mind when you can get a moped, you can give it the flick!

Good luck! contact me if i can help more!

What kind of a advice should i give her?

I have a friend whose a freshman in high school and she's dating a junior in highschool. her b/f wants to have a baby with her and she is not ready for it but since she likes babies she wants to have her own but not right now. after considering all the responsibilities for the babies and every single thing that she should consider...she's confused she doesnt know what to say. what should she do? and also what should i tell her to do?What kind of a advice should i give her?
1st, I'd tell your friend to break it off with this guy %26amp; under no circumstances should she sleep with him. He sounds like a real creep to me. If she has a baby with him, I seriously doubt if he'll be willing or able to help her in any way.

Then, I'd advise her to meet with some teen moms. They can tell her 1st-hand how hard it is to care for a baby at this age. It's hard enough at any age.

When she's much older %26amp; more settled, with the right man, then perhaps she'll be ready for children.

I pray that she'll listen. Good luck. What kind of a advice should i give her?
having a baby sounds easy... yeah you can point out the costs, how she going to raise it ,How it will affect her family, her school and all.. But 1 thing normally does not get stated, the medical side, get her facts about how this effects her body %26amp; babys..

she not medically old enought to have a normal birth, If she very lucky she be able to have a vagial birth (that hurts like hell) more then likely she have to have a c-section...

pregnant teenagers are especially vulnerable to complications, such as high blood pressure, anemia, and, most troubling, premature delivery %26amp; miscarages. Their babies are more likely to be too small at birth and often have underdeveloped lungs, vision problems, or a host of other ailments
Everyone likes babies but it's not all fun and games when you have to take care of one 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the next 18 years. I'm 28 years old, I work 50 hours a week and go to college full-time-finally! I have a good job but I still live paycheck to paycheck because children grow fast and they need a whole new wardrobe every six months or so and it's not cheap. My daughter is 8 years old and me and her father are still together but money has been tight and we get angry easy because we don't get much freetime and when we do we don't have the money to do anything. Your friend may think she's in love right now, but I was to with everyone of the guys I dated during high school! She's young, she'll meet and fall in love with lots more guys. Tell her not to settle on this one quite yet. Stay in school and have a baby after she owns her own home. She'll have the money and be able to enjoy her family much more.
Tell her to cut him off and keep her legs closed.
First of all, you need to tell her to get away from that guy. Any 16 year old kid (just a guess but thats an average for a HS junior) that WANTS a kid...is out of his mind. He most likely just wants to have sex with her, but thats a messed up way of going about it. Why don't you take her somewhere that she can talk with young moms, see the struggle they go through every day and hear it from them. You need to make sure she knows that just becase she ';likes'; babies..she is nowhere near ready to have her own. Maybe just one night at a house with an infant waking her up screaming in the middle of the night will change her mind.
She's too young. Babies are a lot of work! I have two babies under the age of two and I'm married and I still have trouble. Tell her she should wait until she's in a committed, adult relationship..its hard enough to support a baby on two incomes, nevermind on an income of a couple still in high school!
tell her to SAY NO hejust wants to have sex he wont be there odds are to take care of that baby. she needs to break it off with him NOW
Have her to tell him to get one of those dolls that act just exactly like a real baby. Have him take care of it for a week and then see if he still really wants to have a baby. Babies are great, but their not all fun and games. Tell her to tell him NO!!! They are both wayyyyy to young to even be considering having children. She needs to have some respect for herself.
I'm wondering why he is so eager to start a family... but if she has ANY reservations about having children, then she shouldn't get pregnant. Parenthood is a relatively permanent condition.
Tell her that if she has a baby now, she seriously limits her chances of having a stable, secure family at any time in the future. She should babysit for a family with small children. If she was around babies and children, maybe she would see how much work it is.
to get the hell away from him and if this guy wants a baby so bad he needs to marry her first and they should be married for a couple of years
tell him no, that she is too young for that.
Take it from some one who knows. Tell her finish school first.........get a job and then have a baby. Birth control is what you tell her!!

I had a kid in high school and life was a real struggle for awhile. Babies are a major responsibility.
Men will say anything to get a girl to put out. If your neighborhood has a parenting class, have her take that...a lot of times they have you take care of a computerized baby...not fun. Also, she has her whole life ahead of her to have a baby...why when she's a freshmen...maybe after high school and college, but if she has a baby b4 then, it will be very hard for her to achieve her dreams.
i think u should tell her to wait until she is out of school and is financially stable to have a Babbie and can give it every thing it needs and then some.i had my son when i was 19 and i still some times have trouble coming up with the money for thing that come up that cost u. its wounder full that she wants kids but she needs to make shur that this is the man she wants to be in her life for the rest of her life .not just for her but for the kid/kids to be . If this is truly what he wants then he will respect that and wait for her.

Does anyone have any advice on quitting smoking?

I have been smoking for too long and lately I have been smoking like a chimney! LOL I really need to quit. Does anyone have any advice?Does anyone have any advice on quitting smoking?
First congrats on ur decision to improve your quality of life.

I smoked for 20 yrs 1 pack a day.....I quit 4 mths ago and have not touched one even in the most stressful times I did not go back to the old habit.

I tried everything in the past, patches, gum and cold turkey. This time I went to my doctor. He prescribed Chantix. I know there has been alot of bad press about this drug lately but I had no problems with it. I really think it depends on the individual in regards to the side effects. If you really want to quit I suggest you at least give it a try. It worked great for me.

Good luckDoes anyone have any advice on quitting smoking?
Ive been smoking since late 2005 i was up to smoking almost a pack a day sometimes a pack and a half a day if i was with friends who smoked alot. One day i decided i was wasting alot of money so i just decided to quit. Might not work for you, 7 people work at the lab im at and of the 7 people 4 of them smoke. so its tough but i realy think since im still inhaling second hand smoke i guess you could say thats actually helping to curb my need to smoke.

Good luck and quit for yourself not for others.
    Hey Trueblue!

Smoking is a nasty habit, but its one of the hardest habits to kick. Coming from a former smoker, I know - I used to smoke almost 2 packs a day!

A friend of mine forwarded me this ebook that he got that really helped me. It was written by a former smoker and addresses the excuses smokers have about not wanting to quit AND the ';perceived fears'; smokers have about a life without cigarettes. Its an awesome book and you can download it for free. Definitely worth checking out:

    http://www.killer-ebooks.net/Quitting-Smoking.html
You have to be prepared mentally. The physical addiction can last a few days, but the mental addiction can last forever. You can help yourself by using a product designed to help people quit

    http://www.havetoquitsmoking.com/quit-sm鈥?/a>
    Ask your doctor.

My mom, as well as a few of her friends have quit smoking. Its some pill that you take for about a month. but i forget what it's called.

She asked her doctor and he recommended whatever it is and it worked.
I tried everything for the longest time.... at some point you just have to ';man up'; and just stop..... it sucks for a few days but you will feel SOOOOOO much better later on
I work for a smoking cessation team and I'll tell you that the BEST way to quit smoking is to pair both some sort of counseling along with nicotine replacement therapy...that will bring you the greatest likelihood of success. Many hospitals have smoking cessation groups that are either free or only cost about $20. Cutting back your nicotine with products such as the nicotine patch will help you get over the cravings little bits at a time. If you try 'cold turkey' I'm not saying that you won't be able to accomplish your goal...but most people can't bear the withdrawl symptoms long enough to overcome them. The average physiological dependence on nicotine can be broken in 3 days...after that point your addiction is more psychological..which is where things like habit come into play. Think about where you smoke, when you smoke, why you smoke, and what you can do to change those things. If you like to smoke with your coffee in the a.m., try another beverage until you break the habit. If you smoke because of stress, try some deep breathing exercises before going out for a cigarette; you might get the calm down that you need.

Nicotine replacement therapy is a good substitute for smoking when trying to cut back (instead of smoking fewer and fewer cigarettes) because there is only one chemical in NRT: nicotine. There are thousands of chemicals in cigarettes that aren't addictive that you should be avoiding. The patch, for example, releases a constant stream of nicotine into your system so that you don't experience a nicotine withdrawl...it is a small amount all throughout the day rather than a quick burst of nicotine with each cigarette drag. Another good thing about the patch is that, if worn at night, you won't wake up with a craving (especially important for folks who smoke in bed) because you are getting nicotine all night instead of going 6-8 hours w/out any nicotine at all. The patch is in steps to help you cut back, but slowly so you don't have to worry about withdrawls. There are health restrictions, of course, and you CANNOT smoke w/the patch under any circumstances. Nicotine overdose is a very serious thing.

Another option that you could talk to your dr. about is Chantix. This drug helps block the receptors in the brain that nicotine stimulates to release dopamine into your system and give you that 'feel good' feeling. It will help you so that when you go to take a smoke, it isn't a wonderful thing that you can't get enough of.

Having counseling is good because it helps you help yourself. Perhaps 'counseling' has a bad ring to it...think of it more as a point of accountability. If you know you have someone other than yourself to feel almost responsible to, you think twice before 'quitting quitting'. Also, the counselor doesn't tell you what to do. They help you find your own solutions to problems and can give suggestions.

Don't ever feel like a failure if you try to quit and don't at first. Many people try to quit 7-10 times before they do successfully. Instead of focusing on not being able to quit, focus on what things were positive while you were off tobacco. What were your strengths? What weaknesses can you improve upon next time?

    Good luck to you!!
Be resolved that you want to quit, I mean REALLY committed.

Set a date to quit, the prepare for that date.

Get rid of all the ashtrays.

Think of some hobbies that will keep your hands and mind busy when a craving hits you.

Get a bunch of straws and sip water frequently. It helps flush the nicotine and diminishes the oral aspect of your craving.

When you crave, do deep breathing, suck the air in as you would if you were inhaling a drag. Part of our addiction is the relaxation effect you get as you smoke. Slow deep breathing helps to relax the chest and back muscles and relieves tension. It will help trick your mind into feeling satisfied.

Change your routine. eg. If you have cigs while you sit getting ready in the morning, change that habit and get ready standing up, preferably in a different room. Addiction is driving by triggers. When your brain recognizes a familiar smoking situation, it sends the ';SMOKE NOW!'; craving. You have to break those triggers down and reprogram your brain.

Don't hang out with friends/family if they're smoking for at least 3 months, longer if you can manage it. Your cravings will come in waves for months or years. They get further apart and less intense as time passes, but can blind side you into starting again if you don't anticipate them.

DON'T HAVE EVEN ONE PUFF after you quit. That part of your brain that says ';One puff won't hurt me';, is the addicted part of your brain trying to trick you into feeding the addiction.

Shampoo your carpets, wash curtains and any other fabric surfaces in your home, bedding, clothes, etc. Wash down the walls in the rooms you smoked most too.

The residual smell of the smoke can trigger cravings. Also, if you do a major clean you can use that to combat your cravings. When you have a craving think, ';I didn't work that hard just to have to do it all over again when I have to quit again';.

Positive reinforcement is essential. Give yourself rewards for milestones. Treat yourself to something at specific intervals, like 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, a year... Make the rewards things that help motivate you to stay smoke free.

Avoid stressful people and situations for the first 3 months, if at all possible.

    If you can, take a week off work, so you don't use the stress of the job as an excuse to smoke. Also, having used a week of vacation to quit creates an investment in the process. Use that to beat the cravings with repeated mind speak, like '; I'm not going to waste a week of vacation, I WILL DO THIS!';

Get out and walk or exercise as much as you can. It will help with the mental image of a healthier you, while actually making you a healthier you.

Ultimately it begins and ends with your resolve to quit. As your get closer to your set quit date, imagine a smoke free, happy, healthier you. Get a really solid mental image of yourself as a non-smoker and pull that image up as many times a day as you can stand. This will help A LOT to reprogram your mind and defeat future cravings. When a craving pops up, that smoke free mental image of yourself will be easy to access and use to defeat the craving.

Plan ahead and be committed and you'll beat this!

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU :D

  • Can you give me advice on how to be relaxed and optimistic?

I am so pessimistic and stressed at the moment. My problems are:

1- I just had a baby 4 months ago, I love her so much and I am happily taking care of her needs, but I have lost my freedom and don't know how to cope with the new life.

2- I am overweight, 60 kgs when I should be 50 kgs with 160cm height. I can't go on a diet because I am breastfeeding, and excercising is just too much work. I excercise every now and then but it doesn't help shaping my body at all.

3- My husband has a medical problem and is having an operation in 2 weeks, regarding our sex life, as we haven't slept together for 9 months.

4- I just can't seem to be interested in any sort of social contact and I just stay at home all the time, with seeing no body or calling no body. I want to make new friends, but I feel like I have nothing to tell them, or I hate my body and can't find a good outfit.

5- I want to start a self-business next year and I am now researching for it. But everything seems a hard work. Can you give me advice on how to be relaxed and optimistic?
Its so tough, I guess just realize there are so many of us struggling. One thing I do to motivate myself is to eliminate any form of self-pity or regret. Useless traits. I saw these sisters who's heads were connected and one of the women was all short and deformed and had to be lugged around on a table with wheels. Made me realize that having a normal head and body is something that I take for granted. Optimism is about at its core appreciating what you do have - the fact that you do have a husband, and that you do have a child, and that you do have a mind that wants to start a business and try new things, take risks. It's a self-process and so difficult, and no one else can tell you to do it. I think the best way out of misery is to use the frustration to detach a little bit, and let go of the worries. Once you do that you'll find yourself being able to appreciate new things, and do things you didn't think previously possible. You can exercise, however you must start really small as de-motivating as it seems to do a ';half-***'; workout. People get to grandiose and then abandon plans. Forcing in a simple walk each day and some situps and going on from there. It becomes routine, it becomes easier and you hit a point once you start where the exercise actually becomes enjoyable and addictive. That's how people get in such great shape. You think they enjoy it from day one? Doubtful. It sucks. But over time your mind changes and actually craves the exercise which is how people stay so consistent with it. That being said, with your weight I'm not even sure you're really overweight - I don't know kg's... But even if not the exercise is good either way, moving around is scientifically proven to reduce depression. Can you give me advice on how to be relaxed and optimistic?
    bless you,

first of all, about your weight, i am no good with kgs so i will give that one a miss but tie that in with your inability to go out of the house and the answer would be simple, go for a walk. however i am the same as youi do not want to leave the house as so much needs to be done and even when it doesnt i just want 'me' time. so i am in a bit of a rut like you.

i deffo cannot find a nice outfit to wear, but one thing i have found solace in is just looking for something you feel comfy in, even if you do have to go for the bigger size for now, you have just had a baby and people will understand.

if you feel restricted by thr breastfeeding why not switch to bottles? you have done more than enough by now and you might feel more free. a contented mother is better for baby.

i feel i have been forgotten about and this is my 2nd baby! people just assume you are too wrapped up in baby talkwhen really you are screaming out for adult conversation. how about having a little party for the girls? you could do ann summers, virgin vie or even body shop now.

i drive and find going out in the car on my own with the cd player blasting helps. otherwise you could try a mother toddler group, i have heard they are really good.

please let me know how you get on,

if you need to chat i am here paulakay212@hotmail.com
Have you tried yoga. Its worth getting a video or dvd and doing it at home. Otherwise join a group. It will relax your mind and get you in to shape.
First, enjoy your baby. They grow way too fast.

Second, don't worry about your weight. Most pregnant women lose a lot of the weight they gained during their pregnancy after the birth. Things will even out with your schedule once you get the hang of things. You'll have more time for excersise.

As for you not having any intercourse with your husband for the past 9 months, WHY? Sex during pregnancy (as long as it isn't too rough) is really good for expecting mothers! Plus, there are PLENTY of other sexual activities besides intercourse that you and your husband can enjoy together.

New friends can be made in the thousands of chatrooms and profile pages on the internet. Here's a good one: http://www.okcupid.com

You can meet other people like you in your area and it's free.

The business will have to be put on hold. If only for a little while. Your baby comes first now. (At least it should.)

Things that help me with stress:

-A scalding hot bath/shower. Man, are they GOOD! Especially after a long day. The heat helps loosen muscles that have become stiff throughout the day.

-Sex. You said there's some kind of thing going on but that doesn't mean other things aren't off the table. A good orgasm can release major amounts of stress.

-A massage. Coming from your husband, this of course can lead to other things. (Wink, wink!) It can also serve a purpose as to reinforcing your bond as parents by having some time to yourselves that means something. (Obviously when the baby is sleeping.)

I'm sure you can think of other things that can help you relieve stress that only will work for you.

And congrats on the new baby!
First of all, congrats on the new baby! It must be both exciting and scary at the same time!

I know it's hard to right now, but remind yourself that all this stuff is temporary. It sounds like you are looking ahead with your business plans, and that's a good way to be! You are being optimistic in believing that it will be a success once it's carried out.

Your body is still recovering from a major event, and you're still breastfeeding, so there are still different hormone fluctuations in your body, and unfortunately it's making you feel stressed and very tired at the same time. Know that time will change all these things...your beautiful baby will be weaned off your breast and your body will return to ';normal';. Make sure you go to all of your scheduled follow ups, and the baby's also. This way, should it be something else going on, you can catch it before it becomes more involved. Even though your tired, try your best to work out...even if it is just a walk around the block...the exercise will help you feel better and less stressed (and you can feel like you are doing something towards weight loss!)

I'm sure you've sat down and talk to your husband in depth about your feelings. If not, do it! Let him express himself too...together, you both have experienced a major life event, and there may be some concerns and frustrations to let out. If all else fails, try some counseling. To me, your situation sounds emotionally-based, and once those issues are resolved, I think the physical intimacy will return.

Keep researching your business plan, even if you can only think about it for a few minutes a day, because once your situation changes and you get your ';old self'; back, you'll want to dive right into it.

Everything will work out in the end...it just will take time. Good luck!
how can you say you are overweight i am 64 kg and about 155cm height.according to my body mass index this weight is fine unless the doc was just trying to make me feel better.have you spoken to your doctor about these feelings it could be post natal depression.
Sounds to me like you have post natal depression. Go see your maternal health nurse for a local support group and see your doc in case you need to go onto anti depressants. You will be surprised at how common it is. Getting the right support makes all the difference.
    Sarah: -

I know how you feel. My son is 10 months old and he is my life.

Before I had a baby I had a very busy life, I worked 40 hours a week, was a semi professional dancer, had lots of hobbies including singing and playing piano, I was attractive, curvy and bubbly with waist length hair.

Well now I have the opposite problem to you in that breastfeeding has made me lose too much weight and I look like crap. Really skinny, haggard and unnattractive. My hair fell out so badly after my baby was born I had to have it all cut off to a layered shoulder length bob which I hate, it looks lank and makes my face look thinner and also makes me look older.

I don't work anymore, and haven't danced for 18 months, I never have the time or energy to sing or take a music lesson. I never go out or do anything. In fact the highlight of my week is mum and baby group on a Thursday and going to my mums to take her shopping!

I feel better in a way to know that I'm not alone in all this. My partner is not always helpful, he thinks I shouldn't have any social life and should get a part time job and just work and look after the baby. He works long hours for low pay and is always tired and grouchy. We don't have much of a relationship left it seems sometimes.

I don't know if you're like me but part of my problem is that I have no family and friends nearby - the only family I have is my mum, who is 72 and not in good health, and my brother who is 29 and wrapped up with himself. They live about 13 miles away. My partner's family live 250 miles away so they cannot help. As a result there is noone to look after my baby for an afternoon or something so that I can out and do something for myself.

And when I do get the time, ie when my partner comes home at night, I'm too tired and can't motivate myself to get out and do things! I'm ashamed to let my old friends see me as I look fo skinny and haggard and not like my old self.

I know I should be looking for a part time job, I've thought about trying to do things to earn money for myself, giving piano lessons at home or trying to start an online business but to be honest I don't have the energy or the motivation.

I can only hope that things will get better, I wish I could offer you some practical advice but I don't feel in a position to do so as my situation is so similar. Lots of others have given you some good advice and I can only hope that knowing you are not alone in feeling like this will help a little!

Good luck and email me if you'd like to!!
sounds like you are depressed and overwhelmed.

you say you lost freedom taking care of baby. Thats not true. there is alot of freedom taking care of baby and motherhood teaches you to be creative. You can still go everywhere and do everything. You need to find different ways to do stuff when you have a baby but they are very adaptable . And if you need a break, get a sitter, or ask a relative.

As far as your weight, exercise is hard just like labor because its work. When you want it bad enough you will do it. Exercise will help you feel better physically which will help mentally. You can get back in shape. i've had 6 and my youngest was just born this mothers day and I am a size 5 . You have to want it.

Good your hubby is getting medical help for his problem that should do you both good.

Go out and find a park and take baby outside for some air and you will meet moms . Don't you think you may find other moms who feel the same way ? They don't care what you wear, they arent dating you.

As far as business.. .. How Do You Eat An Elephant ???????? One bite at a time ! Hard work is hard. You will be okay. go see doc for checkup. And remember.. you are what you think so make it something beautiful. good luck.
With regarding your weight. You can make changes to your diet whilst breast feeding that will help you lose weight. Try to eat products with less than 4% fat, and try and eat foods that are not processed, because your body will take more energy to digest them. Also try and include protein in every meal as this makes you feel full for longer, and a little bit of calcium in your diet helps fat to pass through unabsorbed.

Any little exercise will increase your metabolism. Just put baby in the buggy and walk for 20 minutes every morning. Dance while you are doing your housework.

Find out where your nearest mother and baby group is or some other kind of activity you can do with your baby. Ask your health visitor for information. You will meet people with the same things in common as you. (they are parents)

Go to www.flylady.net who will help you be more organised and motivated.

Good luck. Remember, there are thousands out there that would love to be in your shoes. xxx
Having a baby is a life changing event. I had a baby boy 11 months ago and although I love every moment with him, I do miss the freedom I once had as well. When you look at your list of problems it must seem very overwhelming for you so try tackling them one at a time.

I joined a new mom's group when my son was 10 weeks old. We would get together once a week and chat. I found that it really helped me socialize and meet new people who were in the same stage in life as me. Although I do not go anymore, I really hit it off with one mom and we talk and get together all the time. Perhaps if you do this you will feel less isolated.

As for exercise, try and schedule a good 1 hour walk every day. The fresh air will be good for you and your baby. Start slow, then work up to a brisk pace. Walking is terrific exercise.

The sex life does go down the tubes in the first few months after you have the baby....but it will get better. Do you have a friend or family that you would feel comfortable leaving your baby with for a few hours? If so, then schedule a regular ';date night'; for you and your husband after he has recovered from his surgurey. Also, see if your friends and famly could come by occasionally for a few hours to give you a break from the mom and wife duties, especially while your husband is recovering.

Anyways, I hope that this helps and that you feel more optimistic soon. Being a mom is a demanding job and it is normal to feel overwhelmed nce in a while so don't be so hard on yourself.
my advise is dont start a business up next year the likely hood is it will collapse or you will. do what most mothers do and put your life on hold. My daughter is 4 has just started school so i can now go to college.i have had to wait 4 years for this so now i have the determination needed to make it a success without anything else being effected. Unfortunatlly you cant have it all in one go.

Hi guys, i need advice i'm 4 months away from graduating, i want to become a veterinarian where should i start?

Are you 4 months away from graduating high school? I hope so, because if you're 4 months away from graduating college, then you have a problem

Assuming you're going to college this fall you need to check out the recommendations for the vet school(s) you want to go to. You can find those schools and their requirements here:

    http://www.aavmc.org

While there are only 28 vet schools in the country, those pre-vet courses can be taken almost anywhere.

The thing that you need to do now, is to try to start working for a veterinarian if you haven't already. Experience is extremely important to vet schools and it's hard to get that experience during college if you're going to a school with a large pre-vet population so try getting some experience this summer.Hi guys, i need advice i'm 4 months away from graduating, i want to become a veterinarian where should i start?
