My car has squeaky breaks. I took it to a mechanic, and I dont know if I believe his advice?

He said they were just glazed over, and they would be good for another 20,000 miles. Is it normal for breaks to squeak and be perfectly fine?My car has squeaky breaks. I took it to a mechanic, and I dont know if I believe his advice?
Glazed brake pads is very common, and though not desired still safe.

The design of the brake system allows for glazing to excess, as well as access to the brake area by dirt.

All of these issues can cause brake noise, and is inherent to disk brake design.

Embarrassed? Either turn the radio up, or ask for a brake job.

But you should know; there is a pretty good chance that the noise will redevelop again unless special measures are taken to reduce the possibility. My car has squeaky breaks. I took it to a mechanic, and I dont know if I believe his advice?
the sqeak is coming from the uneven wear between the break pad surface and rotors surface. if they were new pads the rotor should have been resurfaced (machined) so that both surfaces can be smooth. ripples on the rotor cause noise.
Yep, I have a brand new van that does the same thing. When I took it back to the dealer to have it checked, they said they were ok, they are not like the old brakes that had asbestos on them. The EPA said no go, because the people that worked on the brakes were getting cancer that's why they discontinued the use of it making the brakes noisy.
get better quality brakes soon oe
yes and no. the brakes may be in good shape and still have a lot of pad left and still make noise. weather has a lot to do with it and installation has a lot to do with it. there are things you can do to help quiet the brakes, like replace pad hardware and clean and lubricate all metal to metal contact areas, but your mechanic may not feel that the problem is worth spending money on. so if the noise is not unbearable, don't worry too much about it and have them checked on a regular bases.
My breaks were squeaking and my mechanic told me they were fine that brakes squeak from time to time. I guess if it was checked and he said it was fine I don't think you have to worry.
