I cant seem to put 70% weight on the back leg without making my front leg heavy plus i cant seem to keep my back straight during the stance. ThanksCould anyone give me advice on how to perfect a back stance in karate?
Place both heels together forming an L shape, one heel about an inch or two away from the other. Bend both knees slightly. Now turn the upper body from the waist up toward the direction of the stance.Keep the weight on the back leg now and take the lead leg froward about one short step. Maintain balance as you lift the front knee up. You can check your stance and practice this until you can lift the lead leg and do a number one front kick without loosing your balance. and without significantly shifting your weight. A ';cat stance is the same as a back stance only a little shorter and the front foot is only touching the toes. This allows a fast front kick with no ';zero'; weight shift. Try the Cat stance to test your position and balance and move out gradually to a back stance. Your limit will be where you can just feel yourself having to correct your balance when cambering your front kick.
Most of the time if you are having trouble keeping balance in your stances it is because you are too long and your upper body is facing wrong. Remember to square off your upper body to the direction of travel or delivery of your strike. Foot position is important. Practice in slow motion till you feel secure.Could anyone give me advice on how to perfect a back stance in karate?
This stance is a very comfortable stance. 75% of your weight is going to be on your back leg, 25% of your weight is going to be on your front leg. Now, in the back stance, once again, you are starting from the ready position. You鈥檙e going to step out with your left leg. Unlike the cat stance, both of your feet are going to be planted flat on the ground. What you鈥檙e going to do is just bend both your knees. Weight is going to be on your back leg, some weight is going to be on your front leg. Now, this stance is called the back stance because generally most of the weight is on your back leg. You can still do the same movements as if you are using the cat stance and the back stance, which means that you can easily get a front kick out of it, you can punch, you can block, you can easily move from side to side. There are many different moves that you can get from the back stance. Now, this is the back stance that we are going to be teaching you right now in the beginner stage, which you are just going to start off from the ready position and then step out. Your back foot is going to be facing the side. Your front foot is going to be facing forward and you are just going to bend your knee.
