I have poofy frizzy thick long brown hair any advice on how to control it?

Wash your hair as little as possible. Shampoo dries out curly hair, which causes all that frizz! When you must wash, use only a little bit of shampoo, and plenty of conditioner. Look for shampoo products that do not contain sodium laureth sulfate or similar chemicals - this is what makes the shampoo sudsy, and dries out your curls. Try Deva Curl No Poo and Low Poo shampoos. If you have dandruff, massage your scalp vigorously to work out the flakes and improve blood circulation - you'll see the difference in a few weeks. Condition with a product that's made for curly hair.

After washing out your conditioner, comb through your hair with either a wide tooth comb or your fingers. Both work fine. Or, if your hair tangles easily, comb through your hair *before* you rinse out the conditioner.

When drying, don't rub your hair vigorously with your towel, or it will frizz out. Try scrunching the dampness out by making fists with the towel in your palms, squeezing handfuls of hair, removing excess product and water (so it isn't weighed down). Superthick paper towels (like Viva) or a hair-drying towel (available at Linen's and Things, etc.) also work well.

Always follow up with a high quality leave-in conditioner. Curly hair is thirsty for moisture, and frizz is a result of the individuals hairs poufing out in search of that moisture. If you have fine hair, a drugstore brand leave-in conditioner will work well. For coarse, thick hair, consult your hair stylist to find a rich creamy leave-in that will weigh down your curls a bit.

Finish with an unsticky styling lotion like Bumble %26amp; Bumble curl creme or Bedhead Curls Rock. Pump a small amout into your hands, and rub them together so that it is spread evenly on your hands.

Tilting your head to one side, smooth the product into your hair, in sections. Remember to apply with your fingertips, as applying with your palms can lead to overapplication and stickiness. Work through your hair section by section, and when the product has been distributed evenly, scrunch to your heart's content.

Let your hair air dry, and DO NOT TOUCH IT while it is drying, or after it dries. It's OK to lift at the roots if it looks a little flat on top, but do this sparingly. If you must blow dry, use a diffuser, and only long enough to prevent the hair from soaking the back of your shirt.

Once it has dried, you may want to put it in a clip, a mini-ponytail, or the like. Or, you can just let it down! Curly hair is truly versatile. But however you decide to fix your hair, don't brush or comb it after it dries, because your curls will probably frizz right back up.

[edit] TipsLeave-in conditioner is the key to taming your curls. Talk to your hair stylist to learn whether you need a light or heavy leave-in conditioner.

By scrunching in sections, it ensures you won't miss any spots.

Your hair cut means a lot! A good hair cut for curly hair is usually layered. It creates a look that is balanced and doesn't weigh you down.

Avoid mousse and gel, they will make your hair sticky and stiff. No one admires that early 90s look.

If you're good to your curls and feed them lots of leave-in conditioner, the ends will not split as often as your straight-haired friends. Only go for a trim when it feels like you're wearing a sweater on your head.I have poofy frizzy thick long brown hair any advice on how to control it?
When we expose our hair to the drying effects of the sun, wind and weather and also blow drying, the frizziness is the end result ............. I've also had frizzy and curly wild hair my whole life. But ........................ by simply giving your hair an all natural, chemical free, cheap and easy egg conditioning pack you will revive its natural lustre and vitality in about 20 minutes !! Simply crack an egg and whisk it with a fork. Then add enough shampoo for two applications and mix again. Use half of the mixture and apply to your hair as you would a normal shampoo then leave for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and apply the remainder of the mixture and leave for another 5 minutes ....................... rinse thoroughly and as a final rinse add an inch of white vinegar to the bottom of an empty 2 litre bottle and fill with warm water. Use this vinegar/water mix to pour over your head, ensuring your eyes are closed, to get rid of the dull chemical film from the commercial shampoos and conditioners and restore the ph balance to your hair !! Voila !! Fantastic hey.

try blow drying it as straight as possible and finish it off with a flat iron and some sortof straightening ';gel';. i suggest CHI silk infusion its not really gel but i cant think of a word to really describe it. and straighten it in layers about 1 or 2 inches thick. my hair is very similar to yours and this works very well for me
My hair is pretty thick and curly also. I suggest using a good amount of gel when your hair is wet. When you get your hair cut, ask the stylist to thin it so it's not as poofy. Also, layers helped me keep my hair from looking ';triangular';. Ask a stylist for some advice on how to maintain it.
I have the same problem and i have tried tons of different things. Sunsilk / defrizzer for curls works pretty good. Another thing to, i don't have dandrif but i use head and shoulders unfizz for dry hair and it works really good. gets rid of the frizz and makes it smooth. =]
