I just want a decent camera for a photojournalism class, I have been reading a bunch of reviews and I am a little overwhelmed. I think the Canon Powershot A2000 looks good but I wanted some advice. Has to be at least 8 mega-pixels.I need a new camera for a photo class, looking at Canon Powershot A2000, or one w/ similar abilities, advice?
For a class in photojournalism, you will need a camera much better than a simple P%26amp;S camera.
Before you spend a cent, talk to your instructor. At a minimum you will need a Nikon or Canon 35 mm SLR with standard zoom lens (you can find good used ones on craigslist for under $200).
You may have to buy a DSLR ($450 with lens on Amazon). I don't know where you got the idea that photojournalists use P%26amp;S camera's, because we don't. Actually we use DSLR's that are totally adjustable cameras and carry at least four lenses with us at all times, specialty lenses for shooting sports.I need a new camera for a photo class, looking at Canon Powershot A2000, or one w/ similar abilities, advice?
Everyone's personal preference's are different. When I was in the market a SLR camera (which i recommend over a point-and-shoot) my brain felt like mush from all the info and contradictory advice. Sit down figure out exactly what you want from a camera...go to a couple different stores tell them what you want out of your camera...see which they suggest do those features best (some cameras have better zoom, some better stabilization, blah blah blah)....hold them, play with them..and follow your gut. Any camera you get has the capability of being good. It just depends on how much effort you put into it, adjusting your settings ext for you what you want.
