I am a psychology student trying to get a entry level job in the field while I am still in school. Any advice?

What position in a hospital or rehab (i am specializing in addictions) should I apply for?I am a psychology student trying to get a entry level job in the field while I am still in school. Any advice?
You could apply for position as a :

1) counselor or counselor aide in a hospital

2) counselor in a long-term residential addiction treatment center

3) group home coordinator

4) residential youth counselor or coordinator

5) rehabilitation advisor

6) case worker

You need to get as many certifications as you can if you want to specialize in substance abuse--check out the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) for what you should be working towards: http://naadac.org/

Here's some other positions people have gotten with a psychology degree (that are medical/social service related):

1) social service director

2) hospital patient service representative

3) behavior analyst

4) director of volunteer services

5) child protection worker

6) employment counselor

7) employee counselor

Try checking with the court and prison system, they will often take anyone they can get cheap.
Ask your professor. Get yourself a mentor. Halfway houses offer internships and your state or county council on addictive diseases may be able to assist you.
It is good that you are specializing in addictions. However you are not going to make any money in the field of psychology until you have spent $100,000 dollors for a masters and then attain a Doctorate then write books and do research. Trust me I know from personal experience. Get out of the freakin field while you can. It is a dead end unless you get a Doctorate or know somebody who is going to get you on at a good paying job. There aren' t any ';jobs'; for a psych major. Don't believe me. Do a job search and see if psychology is listed under occupations. Get a degree in business or computer science. You can get a B.S. and start out at $40K a year. Use your earnings to invest and do not collect debt because you have all that extra spending money. Or on the other hand if you are one of those ';I can save the world'; types. 1. You will be disappointed more than rewarded. 2.You will also be saving the world making $10,000 a year dollars with a B.S. in psychology with $30,000 of school debt. You do the math. You can volunteer in you spare time if you want to save the world.
